about

The Rohirrim were slow to twig to the extent of the problem of Sauron. Like most of the other ‘good’ men of western Middle Earth they were well into denial, but finally got it together. They were fortunate to approach the battle front on a secret path, shown to them by Ghan Buri Ghan, the chief of wild men of the Drúedain Forest. The wild men were another people of ancient lineage, who like the Ents, were no lovers of Orcs and the environmental destruction wrought by the dark forces.

So the Men of Rohan’s impact on battle probably outweighed their force, but again there was a halfling agent at play and a lucky twist of destiny, with the chance slaying of the most formidable Nazgul. The Nazgul were ring-wraiths, bearers of the nine rings made for men. They had become formless over many years in thrall of the rings, but their sorcery and airborne presence made them Sauron’s primary creatures of terror. Sauron was worried, as the King again appeared on the rise in the south and Gondor had not fallen. It was a bitter and major setback to lose his multi-talented terror weapon, chief wraith and Dark Lord of the Tower of Minas Morgul. It gave Gandalf a chance to marshal for the final battle and to settle on its location, but more tellingly it gave time to the halfling ‘trio’ making their way across Mordor.

lyrics

THE HORNS OF ROHAN

Gondor calls, it must not fall
The outer wall is vulnerable
So blow the horns, our past reborn
With faces grim, we're the Rohirrim

We must stay calm, Ghan Buri Ghan
The path he'll show, a forgotten road
So blow the horns, there'll be no dawn
Though the day is dim, we're still Rohirrim

Our foes and fire before you
Your homes are far behind
The horns of Rohan, they call you
Let's hope we're there in time

The Nazgul flies, toward the prize
The Gate now lies, cut down to size
So blow the horns, the Mark has sworn
Though our chance is slim, we're still Rohirrim

So ride, let's ride, if we must die
We'll fight the fight, go down with pride
So blow the horns, if our women mourn
At least they'll sing, of brave Rohirrim

Our foes and fire before you
Your homes are far behind
The horns of Rohan, they call you
Let's hope we're there in time

Our foes and fire before you
Your homes are far behind
The horns of Rohan, they call you
Let's hope we're there in time
