about

Picture a time, deep in the past, when shops were not open 24 hours a day. When the party-animal-worker faced a supreme challenge every Saturday. Wake up early enough to get to the supermarket or face a week of counter meals, take-away Chinese, hamburgers and fish and chips. Then the challenge of finding a park, as everyone had the same idea. Having surmounted these obstacles, the final issue was surviving the supermarket itself: the flourescent, endless rows of unfindable goods and the snaking, staring, babbling, intimidating queues. Overwhelmed by choice, this punter occasionally walked in, did a lap and then planned the week's burger-parma-fish and chip sequence. Despite the effort it took, went home empty handed; unamused, and no coffee by Tuesday - aaahhh!

lyrics

SUPERMARKET BLUES

Wake up in the morning, the kitchen looks bare
The rest is in a shambles, my socks aren't a pair
I'm fortunate the coffee takes away the shakes
I'm thinking of the shopping and I know the effort that takes
I hope it's better to wait

I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues
It ain't no use, I' got the supermarket blues
All bad news, I' got the supermarket blues
I have to choose
And you know the effort that takes (effort that takes)
You know the profit that makes (profit that makes)

Head off on a mission, mission one is a park
I'm looking in daylight, still looking at dark
Finally I find one in the fifteenth row
I'm thinking of the shopping and I know I'm pipped at the post
I shop but the shops are closed

I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues
I can't choose, got the supermarket blues
Check-out queues, got the supermarket blues
I'm on a short fuse
And you know the mess I could make (mess I could make)
You know the effort that takes (effort that takes)

Lost in the aisles of the supermarket, overwhelmed by choice
Deep in the realm of the supermarket, I shy at my own voice
I've got the blues

I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues
It ain't no use, I' got the supermarket blues
All bad news, I' got the supermarket blues
I have to choose
And I know the effort I made (effort I made)
I know the price that I paid (price that I paid)

I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues
I can't choose, got the supermarket blues
Check-out queues, I' got the supermarket blues
On a short fuse, got the supermarket blues

I' got the blues, the supermarket blues
So confused, got the supermarket blues
Unamused, got the supermarket blues
I have to lose, those supermarket blues, yeah
