about

We all limit ourselves with our in-built Thought Police. If we didn't we wouldn't be human and indeed would be capable of terrifying extremes, as well as astonishing achievements. But it's a matter of degree and sometimes you come across someone who seems to have forgiving and liberal Thought Police, who allow them to stretch their potential, grab their chances or simply live life to the full. They are the lucky ones; this song's for those at the other end of the spectrum, whose whole existence is cowered by their own mental barbed wire.

lyrics

BRAIN-DEAD

Don't you dream about the life you could pursue! (?)
Don't you think about the things you'd like to do! (?)
Don't you feel there may be relief! (?)
Remem-mem-mem-mem-member the thought police!

Thought police are always near, thought police instilling fear
Thought police are killing dreams, they'll lock you away
And make you stay where no-one hears your screams

Don't you dare to talk about your new ideas! (?)
Don't you dare to voice one of your inner fears! (?)
Don't you dare express your belief! (?)
Lest you bring the thought police!

Thought police are everywhere, thought police aren't paid to care
If you falter just one time, they'll lock you away
And make you pay for stepping out of line

Don't forget the thought police
They will hold you there is no release
Remember well the thought police
Their vigilance will never cease

Thought police are in your head, living there while you're brain-dead
They don't exist unless you wish, and can't lock you away
Nor make you stay where you can't take a (risk)

Thought police are everywhere, in your mind and in your hair
Thought police are always near, waiting there instilling fear
Thought police are in your head, I call to see if you're brain-dead
Thought police are in your head, I call to see if you're brain-dead
Thought police are in your head, I just called to see if you're, brain-dead
