THE GRAIN, THE MOON AND THE MADNESS We put a man upon the moon We sent a probe up there to Mars Invent machines to play our tune Computer brains replacing hearts But there's a place out there in Africa Duals to the death are over food Can't get a grain of wheat to Africa We got a man up to the moon And soon we'll have a person With no mother or father Soon you'll choose the kind of nose On the baby that you're after Soon we'll have our pate-gras Synthesized from plastic Soon we'll find out how to get A grain of wheat to Afrique Africa, Africa Africa she bleeds, Africa in need Africa, Africa We preach our democratic sermon We preach the evil ends of war We peddle arms to any person We send them satisfaction sure But there's a place out there in Africa Dealers in death are number one Can't get a grain of wheat to Africa Won't find a way to stop the guns And there's a place out there in Africa Duals to the death are over food Can't get a grain of wheat to Africa We got a man up to the moon And soon we'll have a person With no mother or father Soon you'll choose the kind of nose On the baby that you're after Soon we'll have our pate-gras Synthesized from plastic Soon we'll find out how to get A grain of wheat to Afrique Africa, Africa Africa she bleeds, Africa in need Africa, Africa Africa we'll be there soon We got a man up to the moon Africa we'll be there soon We got a man up to the moon Africa, Africa Africa

It's Enough 04:18
IT’S ENOUGH I come from, the third world in the west Like poor Peru, I'm a slave to debts The credit's free, the interest's always more It's hard enough, don't need the wolf at the door And what they give has no value Their words are full of the good they do They make you feel that you're the one untrue To an honest way to live, to the proper way to give Enough to make you sick, it's just a dirty trick My mistake, is that I love my fun They assume, I can't get anything done Despite the years, they say I don't have proof It's hard enough, without the hole in the roof And what I use has no value But all my wage goes up the tube They trick me into feeling I'm untrue To an honest way to live, to the proper way to give Enough to make you sick, it's just a dirty trick The righteousness of power, grows with every hour They make it seem like they shower you with gifts But down there on the street, it's poverty that speaks Enough to make you sick, it's just a dirty trick Take a loan, say all the western banks It's not for nought, we think you should give thanks We'll say it's for, another hydro-dam It's hard enough, without the master plan And what we give has no value You'll pay and pay, and when you're through We'll say you are the ones who've been untrue To an honest way to live, to the proper way to give Enough to make you sick, it's just a dirty tri-ick Dirty tri-ick, dirty trick

SILENT DESPAIR She went walking on a winter morning On her honeymoon in France Walking lonely Annie, walking home there Annie? She knew the marriage wouldn't last Oh Annie, what are you doing? Oh Annie, what are you proving? Oh Annie, where are you heading to? On a winter morning on your honeymoon? The cliffs of Calais are surely no place for you? Oh Annie, oh Annie Annie why? He was leaving on a winter evening On a business trip to France Waiting for the ferry, no time to be merry He didn't want another glass He found her, where the path led Waves pounded, opened up her head He found her, on the rocks dead The eerie sound of his cry The cliffs of Calais were surely no place to die Oh Annie, oh Annie Annie why? The cliffs of Calais were surely no place to die The cliffs of Calais were surely no place to die

SUPERMARKET BLUES Wake up in the morning, the kitchen looks bare The rest is in a shambles, my socks aren't a pair I'm fortunate the coffee takes away the shakes I'm thinking of the shopping and I know the effort that takes I hope it's better to wait I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues It ain't no use, I' got the supermarket blues All bad news, I' got the supermarket blues I have to choose And you know the effort that takes (effort that takes) You know the profit that makes (profit that makes) Head off on a mission, mission one is a park I'm looking in daylight, still looking at dark Finally I find one in the fifteenth row I'm thinking of the shopping and I know I'm pipped at the post I shop but the shops are closed I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues I can't choose, got the supermarket blues Check-out queues, got the supermarket blues I'm on a short fuse And you know the mess I could make (mess I could make) You know the effort that takes (effort that takes) Lost in the aisles of the supermarket, overwhelmed by choice Deep in the realm of the supermarket, I shy at my own voice I've got the blues I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues It ain't no use, I' got the supermarket blues All bad news, I' got the supermarket blues I have to choose And I know the effort I made (effort I made) I know the price that I paid (price that I paid) I've got the blues, I' got the supermarket blues I can't choose, got the supermarket blues Check-out queues, I' got the supermarket blues On a short fuse, got the supermarket blues I' got the blues, the supermarket blues So confused, got the supermarket blues Unamused, got the supermarket blues I have to lose, those supermarket blues, yeah

Revenge 03:29
REVENGE A galaxy of soldiers fine, stretches up to the crest As I stand at the head of the line, they know I am the best I have waited many moons, for this chance to repeat You will dance despair and doom, in the hands of defeat I glance there behind me now, at my legion of strength I will tear your standard down, as a god I’ve been sent My men will follow anywhere, they have absolute trust Try again a futile repair, you can’t parry my thrust And in waves we will come, and no challenge we’ll shun This time you’re caught You may quake in the towers, by tonight they’ll be ours We will storm the fort And in waves we will come, with the dawn of the sun And with danger fraught You may forsake all your friends and only hasten your end We will storm the fort One movement from my up-raised arm, and the die has been cast A ripple on the morning calm, a faint sigh from your past Can you feel your kingdom fade as you peer from the wall Do you see the error you made, to oppose one so tall And in waves we are come, as a funeral drum For your time is short You may run for escape, you will never be safe We will storm the fort And in waves we are come, and no challenge we’ll shun This time you’re caught You may quake in the towers, by tonight they’ll be ours We will storm the fort Storm the fort (storm the fort) Storm the fort (storm the fort) Storm the fort (storm the fort) Storm the fort (storm the fort) Storm the fort (storm the fort) Storm the fort (storm the fort)

HEEL NIPPERS’ ANTHEM Hey there mister governor whose only aim is growth You forget you took an oath, for the benefit of most And though you say you're clean your expense account's unreal We're hot on your heels Hey there monster man who's making chemical concoctions Your effluent is noxious, your promises to stop it We don't care for your excuses nor care for your sweet deals We're hot on your heels Hot on your heels, how does it feel? Hot on your heels Hot on your tail and your rotten sweet deals Watching the sales, watching you steal Hot on your tail, we'll unravel the knot We've got the mail, you've got us hot on your heels Hot on your heels, hot on your heels Hey there master scientists so brilliant at your sums Who's to blame, you are the ones, the bulk of you make guns You say it's all for peace and yet find new ways for kills We're hot on your heels Hot on your heels, how does it feel? Hot on your heels Hot on your tail and your rotten sweet deals Watching the sales, watching you steal Hot on your tail, we'll unravel the knot We've got the mail, you've got us hot on your heels Hot on your heels Hot on your heels Hot on your heels

SONG FOR TIANANMEN The signals went out from the hierachy We cannot tolerate this challenge to our order We are heading for pure anarchy If we go on like this they'll be massing on our border We have worked so hard for what we have We won't give it up so easily (oh, no we won't) We protect them, from all that's bad We cannot stop, we are what they need Send the tanks in, break out the tear-gas Rubber bullets, or real ones if they are needed The army's loyal, they know their master They don't mind to see their country-men are bleeding They don't mind at all, it's part of duty's call They don't mind at all Send to me the head of the secret service He will know which of our enemies to take We will see then that our law is not perverted If our headman's wrong I shudder for his sake Can't they see how futile is their stance They all know we don't give easily (no we don't) Can't they see that they don't stand a chance We cannot stop, we are what they need Declare emergency, all leave to be cancelled Tell the newspapers we have nothing to say Call the generals, I want them gathered Then they'll know what is the game that they must play I don't mind at all, it's part of duty's call I will not fall, I will not fall I will not fall

Insomnia 05:35
INSOMNIA I can hear the seconds ticking 'round the clock Seconds ticking, I'm waiting for the movement to stop I can hear the patter of the rain on the roof Seconds ticking but I'm certain that the hands don't move And I'm worried down deep, I'm counting those sheep Yes I'm worried down deep, so worried, can't sleep Insomnia I can hear the howling of the wind in the eaves Seconds ticking, I'm hoping for the pressure to ease I can hear the crying of another regret Seconds tick in time, I'm hoping to forget And I'm worried down deep, I'm counting those sheep Yes I'm worried down deep, so worried, can't sleep Insomnia I can hear the rustle, feel the cling of the sheets Seconds ticking in unison with my heartbeats I can hear the hollow sound of my own breath Seconds ticking are bringing me towards my death And I'm worried down deep, I'm counting those sheep Yes I'm worried down deep, so worried, can't sleep Insomnia

Transparent 04:02
TRANSPARENT When I was a child I wondered where my life would go There was no real limit to the facts that I could know I was optimistic for the progress man would show Little did I wonder at events that would follow I see you in the movies, it almost made me smile You are looking groovy, you think that you have style Sun-tanned in the lights you bask, your smile is just a plastic mask Rows of teeth are so sincere, your image is painfully clear But to me you're like a window, and I say that not to hurt Somehow we are so shallow, from birth to dust and dirt We can't implement our words, contradictions so absurd We think we are what we appear, running from our petty fear Oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh Oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh Now I'm not a child I wonder where my life will go There's still no real limit to the facts that I could know I'm not optimistic for the progress man will show I must sit and wonder at events that will follow I see you in the movies, it almost made me smile You are looking groovy, you think that you have style Sun-tanned in the lights you bask, your smile is just a plastic mask Rows of teeth are so sincere, your image is painfully clear But to me you're like a window, and I say that not to hurt Somehow we are so shallow, from birth to dust and dirt We can't implement our words, contradictions so absurd We think we are what we appear, running from our petty fear Oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh Oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh, oh - oh - oh

In The Red 03:06
IN THE RED Profits are fading, in our relationship (runs at a loss) Invested emotion, gambled on a flip (runs at a loss) Profits are fading, and I'm not making it with you So where do we take it from here Is it better to be distant or be near Are we bankrupt, insolvent and out-traded Is our corporate image degraded Credit's unhealthy, in our banker's eyes (runs at a loss) Nervously shifting, while confidence declines (runs at a loss) Profits are fading, disaster's invading our firm Profits are fading, I see it in your frown (runs at a loss) Expenses are rising, revenue is down (runs at a loss) Profits are fading, while I'm here faking it with you So where do we take it from here Is it better to be distant or be near Are we bankrupt, insolvent and out-traded Is our corporate image degraded Debits are climbing, receivers on our back (runs at a loss) Creditors crying, no entries there in black (runs at a loss) Profits are fading, and I'm not escaping on cue Profits have faded (in the red) Profits have faded (in the red) Profits have faded (in the red) Profits have faded (in the red) We're in the red, there's not one there in black We will never be together in bed again In the red (in the red) We're in the red (in the red) In the red (we're in the red)

TEARBRUSH TREE Keep on walking while the sun is shining Hills a-shimmer in the summer heat Clouds are fleeting, a woman's smiling Rare these days, these times of need And I feel a surge of warmness for my world A certain sense of reason to be here Surety of purpose, cast aside the worthless As I walk I'll brush away the falling tear And this world is mine, everything is fine As I walk I'll brush away my falling tear Brush away my falling tear Brush away my falling tear Keep on laughing as the day is passing Scents are hanging from the eucalypts Wedge-tail soaring, a shadow casting On distant fields the farmer ripped And I see there's still some gladness in my world Battered, tired and worn out, but still here There remains a purpose, far below the surface As I walk I'll brush away my falling tear And this world is mine, everything is fine As I walk I'll brush away my falling tear Brush away my falling tear Brush away my falling tear Brush away my falling tear

CALL FOR SILENCE You say there’s no good reason to try to talk it out You’re positive of what you want, you’re in no doubt I had hoped for reassurance and you need it too But if you desire a silence that will have to do All right, I’ll say good night to you Hold tight and I will say goodnight All right, I’ll say good night to you But it’s a pity in the long term There’s only so many bridges we can burn You say there’s no good reason for you to try to change You’re positive of what you want, it’s just so strange I know you know your weakness, there you stand alone And I know there are many I can call my own All right, I’ll say good night to you Hold tight and I will say goodnight All right, I’ll say good night to you But it’s a pity in the long term There’s only so many bridges we can burn You know there’s one good reason for us to persevere I want to wake and find tomorrow I can hold you near What’s done or left unsaid won’t turn me round I want to talk to you, you’re beautiful, I won’t let you down All right, I’ll say good night to you Hold tight and I will say goodnight All right, I’ll say good night to you But it’s a pity in the long term There’s only so many bridges we can burn All right, I’ll say good night to you Hold tight and I will say goodnight All right, I’ll say good night to you But it’s a pity in the long term There’s only so many bridges we can burn

SUFFICIENT CAUSE I went walking in the forest shade Stumbled on a victim of a police raid A terror-drive began that day This man he cried as in my path he lay And he said hold me while I am dying Hold me until I go Hold me while I am dying The cold wind begins to blow A simple tailor, he was taught to fight He saw the causes in a different light There's foreigners invading our homes Tell them that our hearts are still our own And he said hold me while I am dying Hold me until I go Hold me while I am dying The cold wind begins to blow He was wandering, he was free at last Reminiscing on the good times past In the final ebbing of this brave man's life He said he led them here to save his wife And he said hold me while I am dying Hold me until I go Hold me while I am dying The cold wind begins to blow And he said hold me while I am dying Hold me until I go Hold me while I am dying The cold wind begins to blow

WIND IN YOUR SAIL Remember stretching, in the sand When all you wanted, was close to hand The summer evening, the big brass band In the playground, in my childhood in the sun In the sun, in the sun I see you crying, centred deep A secret pain there, you try to keep I cannot reach you, I need to leap 'Cross the years, to your childhood in the sun In the sun, in the sun Holding you up now, wind in your sail Holding you up now, friend who won't fail Holding you up, and I'm hoping You'll come down again, you'll calm down again You'll come down again, you'll come down You make it hard now, to get through There's only one road, to pursue In life persistence is the clue To the learning, as in childhood in the sun In the sun, in the sun Holding you up now, wind in your sail Holding you up now, friend who won't fail Holding you up, and I'm hoping You'll come down again, you'll calm down again You'll come down again, you'll come down Wind in your sail, friend who won't fail Wind in your sail, friend who won't fail Wind in your sail, friend who won't fail Wind in your sail, friend who won't fail Wind in your sail, friend who won't fail Wind in your sail, friend who won't fail

about

THE dwarf band / KELLAWAY SAGA (continued from 'Cube, It & Bent)

This, the second dwarf band album, saw the blending of the remnants of Alf’s original Casio 35 songs with some rough and ready acoustic guitar-based song-writing. Once again, John was called on to help put a little order into some of the pesky starts, solos and finishes, but the songs were generally more fully formed and the performers more ready, when the studio beckoned. This album has a recurring theme of compassion juxtaposed with the usual lashings of social comment. The title derives from the struggles of a brother-in-arms, who never really got the full south-westerly back into his sail, but battled on gamely for many years. No matter how loud you try to sing it out, sometimes the words just get blown away.
